Save Money using Printable Coupons

ah-hah-moment2I LOVE COUPONS!!  Everyone if looking to save money and many are turning to printable coupons, which is great!!

However, I want to make sure you all are using your coupons properly.  People who properly use coupons can save an average of $10 off each grocery bill. If you shop every week, that is $40/month and $480/year. For those that are new to coupons, 1st let me tell you where to find them. My absolute favorite websites are www.coupons.com and www.couponcabin.com. You don’t have to provide your email address and they have the best coupons. However, you will have to install their software to print the coupons. It only takes a few minutes, but watch the top of your computer to allow for pop-ups. I also use coupons from the grocery store that I receive w/ my receipt after purchasing my items and lastly, I clip coupons that are inserted into my local paper. The coupons inside the local paper are generaly supplied by www.redplum.com and www.smartsource.com.  If you don’t get a local paper, go to their website. Now you are almost ready to shop…here are two tricks for getting the most bang for your buck.

1.  Wait for the coupon items to go onsale

Check your grocery store’s sales ad weekly to see if your coupon items are on sale. Check you expiration date, because you don’t want to waste a coupon waiting for it to go on sale.

For example, I have small children who use flushable wipes which cost about $5.69 for the refill pack and I had a $2.00 off coupon. Now instead of running out and using that coupon, I waited until the wipes went on sale for 2/$7. I bought one refill which now only cost $3.50 and used my coupon. So I have now spent only $1.50 for wipes that generally cost $5.69 SCORE!!!  See why I love coupons.

Now, I understand that this is not the case for every coupon b/c some coupons expire quickly. If you have coupons that will expire in a couple of days, wait, if times allows, until the new sales ad comes out to see if your coupon item is going on sale. If the item is not going on sale and your coupon will soon expire then go ahead and use the coupon. 2. Use multiple coupons for the same item.

Many stores now print out coupons with their receipts. I shop at Meijer and often get a $3 off coupon for a purchase over $40 and $2 off if I purchase 12 Lean Cuisines. I buy Lean Cuisines for my husband’s lunch, so I love these coupons. But to take it a step further, I will go online or look in the local paper for another $1 off coupon. Now let’s put this all together.

Wait for them to go onsale, 5/$10 (the original price in my area is ~$3.69) purchase 20 to get my total over $40, apply all three coupons, $3, $2 and $1….Total savings… lets do the math 20 @ regular price = $74 – 20 @ sale price w/ coupons = $34 = $40 SAVINGS!!! 

It will not always happen like this, but this is the goal. As with anything else, it takes time and patience, but the reward is SWEET!!

If you follow these simply steps, I suspect you will begin to love coupons as much as me.
